So Saturday night, a group of us had planned to celebrate our boy Regi's birthday. The plan was to meet at Nik's house around9ish, then bounce to SF to check out a spot called Suede. I had heard of this place, but had never been there... being the Yelper (aka one who frequents Yelp.com) that I am, I went and did a search; the result: 2.5 / 5 stars, based on 201 reviews, which basically told me not to expect much, and so I didn't.
I got to Niks around 910, and made myself a Captain and Rockstar. Yeaaaah, I know. I had already poured some Captain in a cup, only to discover that the only mixer they had was Rockstar... definitely, NOT the tastiest drink I've ever had, but you can't win em all. We mobbed out to the city in Laifs Infiniti SUV, and Nik decided to blast super techno trance shit, pretty much the whole ride there, which brought flashbacks of 1999, back in my raver days when we'd hit up SF, Oakland, or SJ every weekend for underground raves, bumpin trance, breakbeats, and jungle like it was never gonna go away. We arrived in SF and found parking in less than 5 minutes, which is really rare in SF on a Saturday night, good thing too, cuz this asian had to use the bathroom.
Walked up to the club and the line was like 30-40 heads deep... all of my "kind." I didn't want to judge a book by it's cover, so I just went with it. We finally got to the front and didn't seem to be on the guestlist Nik was supposed to get us on, but luckily, we were with the most resourceful asian ever.. aka ME, and I had me plus 10. This is a prime example of why I plan and Nik drives. So we walk through the doors, and the girl who collected tickets/cover charges... asian; the promoters welcoming everybody in... asian; the VIP hosts... asian. "Well, at least they're consistent," I thought to myself. We get through a set of curtains, and what do you know... nothing but AZN's, not "ASIANS," but straight up AZN's. All the FemAzns were dressed in either red, white, or black; outfits looking like they were ripped right off the mannequins from Forever 21. All the BroAzns either black, white or blue dress shirts, with jeans, rockin bald heads, pony tails, or the high fade with the slick back hair. Everyone "expressed" themselves with either one of two dance moves: 1) the Side-to-Side step 2) the Yay Area Yeeee Hyphy movement. It seriously felt like I was at a high school dance in Eastside San Jose; except everyone had Henikens, Hennessey, or martini's in their hand. Whoopy.
I had to take a break from the entertainment because my stomach wasnt agreeing with some spicy food I had consumed throughout the day. Went to the bathroom, and realized the latch on the stall door was out of service. Friggin great. It's funny how you can hold in a poo for hours at a time, but once you see the toilet, something inside is like "Dude, it's time to blow your ass out." I somehow managed to encourage my bowel movements to just hold on for a little bit longer. Went and asked a security dude if they had any other bathrooms, and was informed that there were two more upstairs. Myself, and my ass, both sighed with relief.
I made it to the top of the stairs, and was confronted by another Security dude who asked me who I was with, because apparently upstairs was only for those with Bottle Svc. I told him I had to use the bathroom, he said there was one downstairs, I told him the latch was broken, he couldnt hear me, I leaned in and said:
"dude, my stomach is fucked up and I really need to drop a deuce."
He proceeded to tell me he couldnt let me in without a wristband, I told him Id give him my ID to hold while i used the "facilities." He agreed. it worked out. my "paperwork" session went great, thanks for asking.
I made my way back downstairs, and the number of AZN's had doubled. call me crazy, but I get claustrophobic when surrounded by a bunch of my own people. Needless to say, it was time to go. because of some obligations and commitments some of us had made, we kicked it for another hour or so, then called it a night at around 12/1230ish.
Long story short... Yelp was right, and so was my gf. Suede is on a Saturday night is AZNcentral.com. nothing wrong with that, just not my kind of crowd. One thing I do appreciate about a club with a predominately AZN crowd, everyone is much more polite. People apologize and say "excuse me" when they bump into you; and dudes don't stand around like child molesters trying to grab every girl's ass that walks by. Would I go back to Suede... not unless I had an obligation to, would I recommend it? yeah, if that's your kind of crowd.
On another note, I finished my 3rd mix, titled Fantastic 2antastic. I'm still learning the basics like beat counting, and matching, but I'll be the first to say it's a hell of a lot better than the previous two. Not too shabby considering I've learned everything on my own, and just started this shit a few weeks ago. So check it out for yourself, and lemme know what you think:
